A. VOCABULARY AT THE AIRPORT

1.  airfare BE /ˈeə.feər/  AE /ˈer.fer/
     the cost of the plane ticket

     the company that owns the plane.




3.  arrival BE AE /əˈraɪ.vəl/ 
     the time planes arrive at the airport

     the area of an airport that deals with passengers that have just 
     arrived,

5. baggage claim
    the place where passengers pick up their bags after the plane 
    lands
6.  board BE /bɔːd/  AE /bɔːrd/
     when the passengers get on the plane

      the airline sold  too many tickets / there are more passengers 
      than seats.
22. metal detector BE AE /ˈmet.əl dɪˌtek.tər/
      a machine that you walk through at places at the airport to 
      discover if you are carrying anything dangerous or illegal.

23. X-ray machine 
       a machine using X-ray at the airport used to detect the metal 
       things or other things in the bags, luggage, baggage etc that is 
       not allowed to bring in 

24. body scanner
      a tool used by officer in the airport to check the passanger's
      body

25. conveyor belt
      a part of X-ray machine that can carry the passenger's bags, 
      luggage,baggage etc. in through X -ray

26. terminal AE  BE /ˈtɜː.mɪ.nəl/ 
      the place where plane begins or ends a trip, or building used by 
      passengers who are arriving or leaving.

B. CONVERSATION AT THE CHECK IN DESK

Smith is flying from London to Tokyo. When he gets at the airport, he goes to the check-in desk
Agent     :  Good morning. Where are you going to today "
Smith     :   Tokyo
Agent     :  May I have your passport, please
Smith     :  Here you go
Agent     :   Are you checking any bags ?
Smith     :   Just this one.
Agent     :   OK, please put you bag on the scale.
Smith     :   I have a  stopover in Osaka. Do I need to pick up my luggage there?
Agent     :  No, it' ll go straight through to Tokyo. Here are your boarding passes - your flight leaves from gate B 3 and it"ll begin boarding at 930. Your seat number 12 A
Smith     :  Thanks.


B. CONVERSATION : GOING THROUGH SECURITY

Agent    :  Please lay over your bags flat on the conveyor belt, and 
                 use the bins for small objects.
Smith     :  Do I need to take my laptop out of the bag.
Agent     :  Yes, you do. Take off your hat and your shoes, too.
(Smith walks through the metal detector)  Beep, beep, beep
Agent     :  Please step back, Do you have anything in your pocket - keys, cellphone, loose change?
Smith     :  I don't think so. Let me try taking off my belt.
Agent     :  Okay, come on through

Agent     :  You're all set! Have a nice flight

C. VOCABULARY & PHRASES USED IN CONVERSATION

1. "What's your final destination" is used by agent instead of 
    "Where are you flying today" ?
2.  When you want to give something to somebody at the airport 
     you can say "Here you go" 
3.  We sometimes take the small bag with us on the airplane is called a carry-on. We must put our carry-on bags through the X-ray machine at security.  "To check your bags" means to put them on the airplane inside the cargo compartment. 
3.  If our plane will stop in different city before continuing to final destination,  the agent usually will say "your luggage will go straight through"

D. OTHER QUESTIONS AND PHRASES AT THE 

    AIRPORT

1. "Excuse me, where is the Garuda check in desk?"
2. "How many bags can I check?"
3.  "Will my luggage go straight through, or Do I need to pick 
      up in (Osaka) ?"
4.  If our bag is heavier than the weight limit, or if you luggage is  
     bigger than the size limit, you may need to pay extra an over 
     sized baggage fee or overweight baggage fee, we will say 
     "How much is the fee"
5.  If we have fragile or sensitive items in our bag that mgiht break 
     will will say  "Please mark this bag as 'fragile"
6. If we want to know either the plane is on time or not, we will 
    say"Is the flight on time?". Usually the agent will respond 
    either "Yes" if the flight is on time, or "There's a 20 minute 
    delay" if the flight will leave later than expected (for example 20 
    minutes)


E. EXTRA QUESTIONS AT THE AIRPORT

a. 1. Did you pack your bags yourself?
    2. Has you luggage been in your possession at all times?
    3. Are you aware of the regulations regarding liquids in your 
     carry-on?"
    For these questions answer "Yes"

b. 1. Are you carrying any firearms or flammable materials?"
    2. Have you left your luggage unattended at any time?"
    3.  "Has anyone given you anything to carry on the flight?
    For these questions answer "No" 


F. ANNOUNCEMENTS AT THE GATE
When you are at the airport you will often hear some announcements at the gate.
1. "There has been a gate change:
2.  "Lufthansa flight 720 to Frankfurt is now boarding"
3.  "Please have you boarding pass and identification ready for 
     boarding".
4.  " We would like to invite our first and business class passengers       to board"
5.  "We are now inviting passengers with small children and any 
     passengers requiring special assistance to begin boarding"
6.  "We would like to invite all passengers to board"
7.  "This is the final boarding call for Lufthansa flight 720 to     
      Frankfurt"
