WEATHER :DEFINITION, CATEGORIES AND ITS DESCRIPTION

SEASONS

This topic discusses the kinds of weather which is  illustrated by pictures that will make us understand more about weather.

Definition of Weather is the state of the atmosphere with respect to heat or cold, wetness or dryness: calm or storm, clearness or cloudiness


Definition weather in Geography is the day to day condition of atmosphere. It includes temperature, rainfall, and wind. Climate is the average weather condition of a place.  usually measured over one year



Mr Abdul:  - Good afternoon!
Shopkeeper: - Afternoon. How're you today?
Mr Abdul : - Not so bad, thank you. And you?
Shopkeeper: - I'm good, apart from all this rain! It’s chucking down again!
Mr Abdul : - Yes, it’s awful, isn’t it? And it is very cold!
Shopkeeper: - The weather forecast said it will brighten up after lunch.
Mr Abdul : - They always say that! Still, I can’t complain it’s a lot warmer than back home.
Shopkeeper: - Really? Where are you from?
Mr Abdul: - I'm from Indonesia
 Shopkeeper: - What’s the weather like in Indonesia now?
Mr Abdul: - Rainy and it's pouring. Some areas are flood.
Shopkeeper: - Right! So this must be like rainy for you!
Mr Abdul: - Right! But I do like the snow. I can't find snow in my country.


Discussing about the weather we will divide into categories : 
Cloudy - Types of Rain - Cold stuff - Types of Wind 

A. Cloudy



There are several kinds of cloudy we can find in English :

a. Bright (adj):  The sky is full of light. The sun is
 shining strongly.
b. Sunny (adj) :  the sun is shining and there are no clouds.

c. Clear (adj)  :  There are no clouds in the sky
d. Fine (adj)   :  not raining, the sky is clear 
e. Partially cloudy :  There is a mixture of both blue sky
                                  and clouds  
f. Cloudy :  There are many clouds in the sky.
g. Overcast :  The sky is covered with cloud, dull.

h. Gloomy (adj) :  The sky is covered with dark clouds
    and dull,light, some people consider this weather 
    depressing. Sometimes the cloud lowers to ground 
    level and it becomes harder to see. 

i.  Fog (noun). foggy (adj.) : thick cloud close to land,

j. Mist (noun), misty (adj.) : light log, often on the
 sea or caused by drizzle

k. Haze (noun), hazy (adj.) : light mist, usually
    caused by heat


2. Types of Rain


a. Damp (adj.) :  Slightly wet, often after the rain has
                            stopped.

b. Drizzle (adj, v) : to rain lightly with very fine drops

c. Shower (n) : a short period of rain

d. Rain (v/n) :  water that falls from the clouds in drops.
e. Down pour (n) : heavy rain

f. Pour (v) :  to have heavy rain

g. It's raining cats and dogs (idiom) : to rain heavily
h. Torrential rain (n) : very heavy rain

i.  Flood (v/n) : to become covered in water, usually due to
                          excessive rain


3. Cold stuff

a.Hail (v) : when frozen rain falls as small balls of ice
                  (hailstone)

b. Hailstones (n) : the small hard balls of ice that tall from
                              the sky


c. Snow (n/v-) : frozen rain that falls from the sky as soft
                           snowflakes 
                    
d. Snowflake (n) : an individual piece of snow
         
e. Sleet (n/v) :  snow or hail mixed with rain (often with
                         some wind)
                        

f. Blizzard (n) : severe snowstorm with strong winds
                      


4. Types of Wind
a. Breeze : a gentle wind (often nice or refreshing)
b. Blustery : blowing (strong) gusts of wind
c. Windy    :  continual wind

d. Gale : a very strong wind



e. Hurricane/cyclone/typhoon : a spiral arrangement of
         thunderstorms  that produce winds and heavy rain.
a hurricane = Atlantic /Northeast pacific
a typhoon   =  Northwest Pacific
a cyclone  =  Southern Hemisphere
