1. Something you say or write to express sympathy 
    when someone has died.
2. An expression of sympathy  with someone who is 
    grieving
examples :
"Please accept my sincere condolences at the loss of 
    you loved son/husband/wife/parent"


How to Express Condolences

When a person we know or do not know dies, you sometimes get difficulty hot to say to the bereaved. If English is your second language, it even harder to comfort a grieving person . You Sometimes use a present tense verb when you use the past. Please don;t feel bad if you do this. You know even native English speakers find this awkward in the early hours and days after a person's passing.
It is important to acknowledge the loss in one form or another. Here are some expressions you can use to express your care and concern in English when someone passes away..


Expressing Condolences in English

It is a good idea to name the person who died. If you know this person, describe something you loved about him or her. Share a fond memory if you have one. If you don’t know the person, express sadness that you never got to meet him or her or acknowledge the importance of this person to your friend.
1. I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
2. I was heartbroken by this sad news.
3. You were such a dedicated  
    friend/mother/sister/father to.....  (name)
4. I will never forget when he/she.... (a memory 
    using the past tense, e.g. he/she celebrated 
    his/her birthday)
5. I'm sorry, but I am at a loss for words. (if you 
    can't think of anything else to say or write)
6. If you need anything, please ask. (e.g. Let me 
    take care the kids.
7. When you are feeling up to ti, let's have coffee 
    together.
8. I'm here for you if you need anything
9. Our deepest condolence to you upon the 
    passing of .... (name)
10 So sorry to hear of .....'s (name) passing
11. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies on the 
     loss of you loved father/mother/son/doughter/ 
     wife/ husband

Expressing condolences in writing


When you are looking for a card in a stationery
shop look for "sympathy" cards. You can use many of the same expressions in a sympathy note or card.
1. Please accept my/our sincere condelence
2. I would like to express my sincere condelences 
    on the death of .... (name). He/She was...... 
    (describe this person in a word or two)
3. I'm sorry I  could not convey my condolences 
    in person (If you are far away from a friend, 
    you can use this in a phone call too)

Words used when we give a sympathy gift or donation

1. Please accept these flowers from our family.
2. I have a donation to...... (charity or 
    organization) om ..... (name's) honour.
3. As per you request, we have made a donation 
    to .... in  lieu of flowers.


Closing you condolence note or card

1. You family will be in my thoughts and prayers
2. wishing you peace as you grieve this loss.

acknowledge (verb): to express recognition or realization
deceased (noun): the person who is no longer alive(adjective=”deceased”)
pass away (verb): to die (noun=”passing”: I’m sorry to hear of his passing.)
dedicated (adjective): showing extreme care and commitment to a person or thing
