preposition at, on in

A.  PEPOSITION OF TIME



1. On     -  days of the week    e.g on Monday
                     I will leave for Tokyo on Sunday
2. In      -   after a certain period of time  
                  e.g  in two hours
                      I will be there in two hours
                  year            e.g  in 1992
                      I got married in 1992
                  months/seasons e.g in July
                      He was born in July
                  time of day e.g.  in the afternoon
                      We often play tennis in the afternoon
3. at       -  a certain point of time 
                  e.g.  at four twenty
                      The show will start at four twenty
              -  for weekend     e.g at weekend
                      They often go out at weekend.
              -  for night     e.g  at night
                      They will leave at night 
4. since  -  from a certain point of the time
                  (past till now)
                  e.g. since 2005
                  We have been together since 2005     
3. for      -  over a certain of time (past till now)
                 e.g. for 5 years
                  I have studied English for 5 years.    
4. ago     -  a certain time in the past   
                  e.g. 5 years ago
                  I I met her 5 years ago
5. before -  earlier than a certain point of time  
                   e.g. before 2015   
                  I  will finish my study before 2015    
6. from - till  -  marking the beginning and end of a 
                        a period.      e.g.  from 7 till 830
                  I will wait for you till tomorrow
7. by       -    in the sense of at the latest
                    e.g  I will be back by 6 o'clock
               -    up to  a certain time
                    e.g. By 11 o'clock I had read all pages

B.  PEPOSITION OF PLACE (POSITION AND DIRECTION)

1. in       -  picture, world       e.g.   in the picture
               - car, taxi                 e.g.   in the car,  in a taxi
               - book, paper           e.g.   in the book
               -  room, town, country, building, street
                                               e.g.  in  the building,
                                                       in Toronto 
2. at       -  place where you are to do something
                 typical
                 (watch a film, study, work)
                  e.g. at school, at the theater
              -  for events        e.g. at the party. 
                                                at the show
              -  meaning next to, by an object 
                 e.g. at the door,
              -  for table                 e.g.  at the table
3.  on     -  for television, radio 
                  e.g.  on the radio, on TV
              -  attached something 
                  e.g.  the picture on the wall
              -  for public transport 
                 e.g. on the train, on the bus
              -  for a place with a rive  
                  e.g.  Palembang lies on Musi river
              -  being on a surface  
                 e.g.  on the table
              -  for a certain side (left, right)
                 e.g. on the right   
4. by, next to, beside - left or right or somebody or something
                  e.g.  He is standing by/beside/next to
                          my sister  .

5. under  -  on he ground, lower than (or covered
                  to) by something else  
                  e.g The cat is under table.   

6. below -   lower than something else but above ground
                   e.g. The floor is below the lamp. 
7. above -    higher than something else ,
                    but not directly over it
                   The two objects are no touching
                     The lamp is  above the floor.
8. over    -   covered by something else 
                   e.g. Put your jacket over your shirt !
                -  more than
                   e.g. over one hundred years ago   
                -  getting to the other side (across)
                   e.g.  He drive over the river
                -  overcoming an obstacle
                   e.g  The boys jump over the fence  
 9. across  -  getting to the other side (over)
                   e.g. The boy jump across the fence 
10. through -  something with limits on top, 
                       bottom, and the sides
                       e.g. They drive through the tunnel !
11. to        -  movements to person or building
                    e.g. I go to the campus
                 -  movement to a place or country
                    e.g. We go to USA
                 -  for a bed   e.g.  Mary goes to bed at 9. 
12. enter   -  enter a room / a building  
                    e.g. go enter the kitchen.

13. toward - movement in the direction or
                     something (but not directly to it)
                     e.g  walks 5 steps toward the building
14. onto    -  movement to the top or something
                    e.g The cat jumped onto the table.  
15. from    -  in the sense of where from
                     e.g. a flower  from the garden.
16. after     -  one follows the other
                     e.g. The cat ran after my dog.
17. along    -  in a line, from one point to another
                     e.g. They're walking along the beach.
18. against - directed towards something
                     e.g The bird flew against the window.
19. among  - in a group
                      e.g. John sits among his family
20. around  -  in a circular way 
                      e.g. We're sitting around the campfire.
21. behind  -  at the back of
                      e.g. My house is behind the hospital 
22. by         -  near   
                      e.g. He lives in the house by the river  
23. close to -  near    e.g. My house is near the river
24. down     -  from high to low
                       e.g. They came down the hill.
25. up          -  from low to high 
                       e.g  We went up the hill.
26. from      -  the place where it starts
                       e.g. Do you come from Brazil?
27. in front of - the part that is in the direction it faces
                       e.g. My office is in front of the cafe.
28. opposite - on the other side
                       e.g. You campus is opposite my campus.
29. off          -  away from something
                       e.g. The cat jumped off the roof
30. past        -  going near something 
                       e.g. Go past the supermarket.
                               The ball is going past the box.
